Play and why it’s important for children

At Tiny Town we are strong believers in the benefits of play to support children’s learning and development.  So we were very excited to find this podcast hosted by well-known parenting expert Maggie Dent, discussing this very issue. Building cubbies, make-believe, dressing up – while it might just look like fun and games, play is actually crucial for your child’s development. According to Maggie the problem is, as Australian kids spend more time at school, on their screens and in structured activities, they’re not playing enough.  In this episode she talks to Robyn Monro, commentator and President of the International Play Association about why kids of all ages need to play more.

In this episode Maggie also talks to Joe Brumm, the creator of this year’s Logie Award winning children’s show Bluey, about how the show develops mental, physical and emotional resilience through play.
